you cannot put rocks in your pocket(s), 2016, 162 3D Scanned and replicated arctic rocks, PLA Plastic, birch
While stopping on various landings in Svalbard, we were instructed to leave no trace behind. Everyone often removed at least one rock and put it in their pocket. In an effort to record various locations in which the barquentine ship landed and unable to take geological samples from these locations, I created a series of 3D scanned and replicated rocks to document each landing location. the process of digital fabrication to capture the ephemera of a rock has left to be only a shiny weightless piece of plastic.
